 The New Year is here! With the majority of resolutions focused on weight, fitness​, nutrition and smoking cessation, the New Year is a great time to try new things. Whether it's trying new foods, activities or changing behaviors, make meaningful commitments to better health by signing the Cobb2020 Pledge. Cobb2020 provides sounds information and resources so that you can make personal commitments for you and your family, or get your colleagues involved and initiate changes for a healthier work environment. Choose to Get Active: Party on with the New Year, New You Kickoff!

On Saturday, February 8, Wellstar Health Place will host a fitness party to kick off the New Year, New You Challenge from 8 a.m.- noon. Back-to-back fitness classes and a raffle hopes to encourage and engage participants to start building healthier lifestyles. The day will have something for everyone including Spin, kickboxing, strength training, core and yoga classes.  Call 770-793-7305 to register for the event.

Can't make it to the group fitness party? Cobb2020 lists different ways you can get active at your pace and time all while reaching your healthy goals.

The overindulgence of the holiday season inspires many resolutions. Making healthy resolutions can help achieve healthy lifestyle goals and changes that can help make this your best year yet!

Consider some healthy changes:

  • Try lower calorie options of your favorite comfort foods;
  • Indulge on fruits and veggies;
  • Eat smaller portions;
  • Substitute sugar-loaded beverages with water.

A new year is a great platform to create new healthy habits or help someone you know to quit smoking. Many have made this resolution, and many, many people have succeeded in doing the same. According to the CDC, former smokers, approximately 50 million, now outweigh the number of current smokers. The Georgia Department of Public Healthy (DPH) is providing help to Georgians who want to quit smoking and stop using tobacco products. DPH is offering a four-week supply of FREE Nicotine Replacement Therapy to all Georgians 18 years and older who use tobacco products. The free Nicotine Replacement Therapy medication comes in the form of patches and gum. If you are ready to quit now, contact the Georgia Tobacco Quit Line at 1.877.270.STOP (7867) for the free therapies.

Since 2001, the Georgia Tobacco Quit Line has helped nearly 95,000 Georgians in their attempts to stop smoking. You could be next by taking the fist step to quitting now and calling the Georgia Tobacco Quit Line.

Cobb2020 Spotlight

Walk Cobb teams log over 29,000 miles!

Between October and December, 424 individuals made up 106 teams that challenged themselves to Walk Cobb. The initiative was through the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension's Walk Georgia campaign.
The Cobb County teams collectively logged 29,273 miles while 11 teams exceeded their walking goals.

The registration for the next Walk Cobb starts on February 1, 2014.

Cobb2020, a collaboration of community organizations and individuals dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and increasing access to health services in Cobb County, is developing a Health Improvement Plan that will create significant changes in building a healthier community. This health initiative is about giving YOU the information you need to make healthy choices and help those around you make healthy choices.
