We are proud to announce the launch of our Farm Fresh Market starting May 5, 2014.
Cobb2020 strives to give the residents of Cobb County tools and resources to enhance their lives in a healthy way.
Funded by the CDC Community Transformation Grant, our Farm Fresh Market aims to provide our residents better access to low cost fruits and vegetables.
The market's pilot will initially serve the Austell-Six Flags Drive area, or specifically zip code 30168. The market will be available three times a week, in various locations around Austell, through partnership with the YMCA and Cobb2020.
Mableton Farmer's Market opens in May and will be open through September.
The We Can! in Cobb Coalition also received a mini grant from Cobb & Douglas Public Health through the CDC Community Transformation Grant (CTG). The coalition seeks to prevent and reduce obesity and improve nutrition by increasing accessibility, availability and affordability of healthy foods in the South Cobb community (specifically through the Mableton Farmer's Market).
With CTG funding, the coalition was able to help position the market to accept food stamps, train participating farmers on the SNAP program, and provide signs and tents to run the market.
Cobb and Douglas Public Health is partnering with Eat Right Atlanta to provide Cobb and Douglas Public Health employees, clients and neighboring county offices with access to fresh fruits and vegetables during a fruit and vegetable outdoor market pilot.
Eat Right Atlanta sells full bags of fruits and vegetables for the same price every week.
You'll always get 10-12 different items (lettuce, sweet potatoes, apples, oranges, cucumbers and more), and it costs only $15.
The market will also have All Fruit Bags for $20 and large Family Boxes for $25. Or you can "Make your own Bag" by picking any 5 types of fruit & any 5 types of vegetables for $20.
Dates: Fridays (last day will be June 27)
Time: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Where: Marietta Public Health Center, 1650 County Services Parkway, Marietta

Cobb2020 is launching the Tobacco-Free initiative which will aim to prevent and reduce tobacco use in Cobb County. Through its work, the initiative will work to increase outdoor venues that are smoke-free and tobacco-free. It also strives to arm youth with skills to avoid the tobacco habit.
In March 2014, Cobb & Douglas Public Health (CDPH) administered a 100% Tobacco Free Schools (TFS) Policy Enforcement assessment in Cobb County and Marietta School districts. 10 of 17 high schools were assessed on their success in enforcing the TFS policy to staff, students, parents and visitors.
A five part survey was utilized to collect and document information via: 1) Communications Policy Checklist, 2) Property Signage Observation Worksheet, 3)Athletic Event Observation Worksheet, 4) Key Personnel Interview and 5) Policy Enforcement Plan. Results from this survey were then sent to the Georgia Department of Public Health to be analyzed with other districts' results.
